Meridian Valley Labs: When Quality Counts, It's All in the Details

Since 1976, Meridian Valley Lab has taken laboratory testing to the next level by providing best-in-class integrative diagnostic testing services to doctors everywhere, benefiting thousands of patients worldwide.

As a leader in this space, Meridian Valley Lab sought packaging that accurately reflected their dedication to quality and accuracy, while respecting their budgetary needs.

An Unplanned Change

As a client of The BoxMaker for over 10 years, Meridian Valley Lab had relied on flexography to print their consumer-facing testing kit boxes. However, this analog method is limited in the number of colors that it can economically produce as well as the level of print detail that it can achieve. 

As the years passed, new print technologies entered the marketplace and began to render older machinery obsolete, including the machinery used to manufacture Meridian Valley Lab’s boxes. Although it was still possible for The BoxMaker to produce this job with flexography, it could not be done 
efficiently enough to fit within the client’s desired timeline and budget.

Converting Change Into Opportunity

Changes in technology can mean the opportunity to improve your packaging experience and supply chain. Since 2011, The BoxMaker has been on the forefront of digital print for corrugated packaging and labels. Convinced that this technology could deliver improved results for Meridian Valley Lab, we invited them to tour our Digital Production Center for packaging and display, featuring the HP PageWide C500 press, the first post-print digital press for corrugated to deliver offset-quality graphics at mainstream production volumes.

Files of the client’s packaging artwork run on the C500 demonstrated a clear upgrade in print quality. Meridian Valley Lab also recognized that the automated workflow of digital print and the ability to print on demand in a wide range of volumes had valuable implications not only for their brand but also for their business operations.
